Is a chronic condition covered under my plan?

YuLife Health Insurance isn't designed to cover chronic conditions. Bupa considers conditions to be chronic if they have one or more of the following characteristics:

  • it needs ongoing or long-term monitoring through consultations, examinations, check-ups, and/or tests;

  • it needs ongoing or long-term control or relief of symptoms;

  • it requires your rehabilitation or for you to be specially trained to cope with it;

  • it continues indefinitely;

  • it has no known cure; and

  • it comes back or is likely to come back.

If you're unsure as to whether your condition is covered under your policy, please reach out to Bupa, who will be able to help you further.

Are all symptoms related to a chronic condition always excluded from cover?

Some acute symptoms of chronic conditions (commonly known as 'flare-ups') may be covered under your policy. If you're unsure whether this is covered in your plan, get in touch with Bupa who will be able to help.

Can I go private for childbirth under my plan?

Routine pregnancy and childbirth is a standard exclusion from your health insurance plan, so it wouldn't be covered. However, there may be some cover in the case of childbirth complications.

Can I get cosmetic surgery under my plan?

Although elective cosmetic surgeries are not covered under your plan, you may be covered for reconstructive cosmetic surgery if medically necessary and related to an insured condition (for example, a mastectomy).

Does health insurance cover COVID-19?

Your policy does cover treatment of a condition or complication that has arisen from COVID-19, as long as it meets the standard policy terms.

Can I use my health insurance when I'm abroad?

Any treatments received outside of the UK are not covered by your health insurance policy. There may be a scenario in which a treatment that is not available in the UK, but would usually be covered in the UK, may have some contribution by Bupa - but in cases such as this, please get in touch with Bupa for more information,

Can I choose any hospital when using my health insurance policy?

Not all hospitals are available on your health insurance policy. The hospitals you can use are defined by your policy and depend on the hospital list/facility access selected by your employer. Not all hospitals and consultants charge the same amount for their services, so your employer chooses the list that is right for the company to ensure costs remain sustainable. Before you have a hospital treatment, have a look at the approved hospital list in your Welcome Pack. You can also look at the Facilities Finder website to make sure you are using an approved hospital/facility for your treatment and policy.

How much will my plan reimburse me for Dental?

Cash benefits will be listed for your policy and may include some Dental treatments. Eligible claims will be paid up to the determined amount for that benefit.

How does Bupa cover work for companies based in Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man?

Depending on the level of cover your employer has provided, you may be required to travel to the UK mainland for some private treatments if you are based on one of these islands.

Does getting a checkup and taking medicines related to a pre-existing condition affect a moratorium?

Pre-existing conditions that receive checkups or medication to control, monitor or alleviate symptoms will count as a treatment, and this will subsequently affect the length of time it takes for the condition to become covered again.

Can you tell me what my P11D/Benefit in Kind is on my health insurance?

As your employer has taken out a Group Health Insurance policy for you, we're unable to provide any individual details. Please drop your HR manager a message, they'll be able to help you out.

If you have any questions or run into any issues, please reach out to us via your YuLife app :)
